Rosanne Williamson is the director of Mountain Vista Governor’s School, the Commonwealth’s newest academic-year governor’s school, which will serve students in the school divisions of Fauquier, Culpeper, Rappahannock, Warren, Frederick, Clarke and Winchester City. The school, located at Lord Fairfax Community College (Fauquier campus and Middletown campus), opened in August 2006.
Sylvia Wadsworth, who served as the MVGS planning director, said, “Dr. Williamson brings to the position her experience as an administrator, a gifted resource teacher, a high school English and math teacher, as well as a creative enthusiasm, passion for learning, love for children, and a pioneering spirit.”
A native of Rutherfordton, NC, Dr. Williamson graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, with a teaching endorsement in English, grades 6-12. The military took her to Augusta, GA, where she taught middle school and high school, to Germany where she did military-contract teaching for soldiers, and to Vint Hill Farm Station Army Base in Fauquier County which led to a gifted and talented teaching position at Bradley Elementary School in Warrenton.
In 1995 she enrolled in the University of Virginia’s Master’s in Administration program in Northern Virginia beginning a 10-year odyssey toward a doctorate. A mother of four children, she continued to work part-time in education, eventually resuming a full-time career when she became an assistant principal at Ritchie Elementary School in Fauquier County. In 1998 she completed her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, and in March 2005 she earned an Education Doctorate in Administration and Supervision with a concentration in Gifted Education.
In her free time Dr. Williamson enjoys reading and quilting.
“Beginning a new regional governor’s school is an exciting opportunity. I believe this unique school meets the needs of gifted high school students in our area, providing them with opportunities and experiences to grow into tomorrow’s leaders,” Dr. Williamson said.
