2011 MVGS Astronomy Workshop

The Mountain Vista Governor’s School will be conducting an Astronomy Workshop during the third week of August (8/15-8/18). Current and upcoming MVGS students are invited to participate in this week of hand-on exploration into the science of astronomy. Students will be engaged in activities designed to help them experience how astronomers collect, record, and interpret data to create an understanding of the universe.
The workshop will consist of 2 two hour local sessions lead by Mountain Vista faculty on Monday and Tuesday followed by an overnight trip to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, WV where students will work along side NRAO astronomers to collect data using the 40ft radio telescope at the observatory on Wednesday into Thursday..
The workshop is limited to 25 students and will cost each student $100 to participate. If you would like to participate in the Astronomy Workshop, please download and fill out the permission form and return it to the MVGS office along with a $50 deposit to reserve your spot in the workshop. If you have any questions please contact the MVGS office.
