2011 MVGS Amateur Radio Field Day Station
The Mountain Vista Governor’s School students and families are invited to join us on the Middletown campus on Saturday, June 25th from 1:30pm until dark (and then some if we are on a roll) as we participate in the annual nationwide ARRL Field Day event. Each year amateur radio operators worldwide set up and operate their stations in locations outside of their "ham shacks" to simulate emergency conditions. During this day radio operators attempt to make as many contacts across the globe as possible from their Field Day stations.
This year, MVGS will be joining in the fun as students work with teachers to erect an antenna and set up a MVGS radio station. Students and family members will be given the opportunity to learn about radio propogation and communication as they are invited to work the station making contacts with other stations around the world.
We will meet in the LFCC Physics Lab on the LFCC Middletown campus at 1:30pm to get organized. The contest rules dictate that set-up can begin at 1800 UTC (2:00pm eastern daylight time). We will work to try and get our station on the air as quickly as possible so we can begin logging contacts. Feel free to stop by at any time during the day to check out the action. Please note that this event will happen rain or shine. For more information on Field Day and amateur radio in general, check out the links on the left-hand side of this page.
If you would like to join us as we set up the first ever MVGS amateur radio station, please contact Mr. Burton or just show up. No experience necassary. Come and learn about the exciting world of radio communication.
