2011 MVGS Monticello Day Trip

On August 17, 2011, the Humanities program has scheduled a trip to Monticello. Thomas Jefferson’s famous home has begun special tours into areas previously viewable only through special connections. We’ll be taking a Signature tour of the home with a small group, and we will climb into the dome area. The tours are available only in the evenings, so we’ll be leaving in the afternoon rather than the morning. To make the trip a little more useful, we’ll stop by the UVA campus and spend some time looking around. A trip to Charlottesville isn’t complete without a trip to Bodo’s Bagels, so we’ll have dinner there. (As a Virginia Tech alumni, I can assure you, Bodo’s is the best thing about Charlottesville.)
Itinerary:
- Leave Middletown at 2:30 p.m.
- Leave Warrenton at 3 p.m.
- Arrive in Charlottesville at 4 p.m.
- Tour the older part of the UVA campus (a nice leisurely walk)
- Get dinner at Bodo’s at 5
- Head to Monticello
- Start the signature tour at 6:15 (takes about an hour)
- Walk the grounds, tour the garden, head home no later than 8.
- Arrive in Warrenton at 9:00 p.m.
- Arrive in Middletown at 9:30 p.m.
